Mudia - Museo della Cattedrale
Set up inside the original Palazzo Vescovile, adjacent to the Cathedral of San Gerlando, it boasts a huge artistic and symbolic collection.
Considered one of the most peculiar galleries in Sicily, it traces the historical-artistic path of almost a thousand years of the Agrigento Diocese and beyond, from the 12th to the 19th century, representing the natural completion of the visit to the Cathedral. The Halls of the Diocesan Museum, in fact, exhibit the Treasures of the Cathedral through medieval frescoes, Baroque period paintings
the wooden ceiling panels up to a rare collection of ivories, reliquary cases and the highly prized portable altar from the low medieval period. A mix of ancient treasures and entire “limbs” of the Cathedral of Agrigento – era by era reformed and dissected to reach its very peculiar current complex – collected in a dainty exhibition of rare finesse and harmony.
