The Bell Tower

The visit to the Cathedral also includes access to its two towers: the clock tower and the bell tower.

The Clock Tower is part of the ancient core of the church built by Count Roger in the 11th century, also used as a lookout tower. The Bell Tower characterizes the highest point in the city centre, a breath-taking view over the Mediterranean Sea, the Valley of the Temples and the entire coast of Agrigento. Built by the canon Giovanni Montaperto Chiaramonte in 1470, the building remained incomplete, except for the south facade made with Comiso stone.

In addition to the astonishing view of the city and the four sided bell tower, the visit offers the exclusive opportunity to reach the Rose Window of the Cathedral, an unprecedented view of the Ceiling in Capriate, exemplifying indeed one of the most seductive and must-see sites for any visitor.
